Products & services

BorgWarner’s Turbos & Thermal Technologies products include turbochargers, eBoosters and eTurbos, emissions and thermal systems, ignition technology, actuators, sensors, cabin and battery heaters, and battery-cooling systems. These products support engine performance, fuel economy, emissions control and temperature management. Light-vehicle turbochargers accounted for about 21% of net sales in FY2025.[2][10]

Drivetrain products include transmission hydraulic controls and clutches, 4WD transfer cases, AWD couplings, electronic limited-slip differentials, electric torque-vectoring and axle-disconnect systems. The company also supplies chain drives and variable cam-phasing systems. Its electrification portfolio includes inverters, onboard chargers, DC/DC converters, eMotors, generators, integrated drive modules combining an inverter, motor and gear reducer, and electronic controls such as battery-management and propulsion controllers.[11]

Battery products include nickel-manganese-cobalt and lithium-iron-phosphate packs, with battery-management systems and liquid cooling; company materials describe battery cycle life of up to 6,000 cycles. Its industrial products include TurboCell modular turbine-generator systems, alongside data-center and microgrid power solutions. In FY2025, eProducts—electric-vehicle products and qualifying products or components used in hybrid powertrains—generated approximately $2.6 billion, or 18% of revenue.[13] [2]

Company history

BorgWarner’s roots include the Morse Equalizing Springs Company, founded in 1880, and Warner Gear, established by Tom and Harry Warner in 1901. Warner Gear developed a standard transmission for multiple car makers in 1919. Borg-Warner Corporation was formed in 1928 by combining Borg & Beck, Marvel-Schebler, Warner Gear and Mechanics Universal Joint; Morse joined the following year.[25] In 1952, BorgWarner turbochargers were used in vehicles competing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.[28]

The company expanded through acquisitions, including Kuhlman Corporation in 1999 and Remy International in 2015.[29][30] Frédéric Lissalde became CEO in 2018; in 2020, BorgWarner completed its acquisition of Delphi Technologies, adding power-electronics capabilities.[31][32] In 2023, PHINIA separated from BorgWarner in a spin-off. Joseph F. Fadool succeeded Lissalde as CEO in February 2025.[33][34]
