In its FY2025 Form 10-K, the company disclosed major facilities in San Rafael and Novato, California, and Shanbally, Cork, Ireland. San Rafael is its corporate headquarters and includes laboratory and office space; Novato and Cork support manufacturing, laboratory and office activities. The report identifies manufacturing in Novato for ALDURAZYME, NAGLAZYME, PALYNZIQ and VOXZOGO, and in Cork for BRINEURA and VIMIZIM.[9]

The FY2025 report does not provide geographic revenue percentages or employee distribution by country or region.[12] [9]

Business segments

BioMarin reports one operating/business segment, rather than separate reportable business-line segments. Its stated focus is developing and commercializing therapies for serious and life-threatening rare diseases and medical conditions; accordingly, the single reported segment represents 100% of consolidated revenue.[13][14]

For FY2025, product and therapy revenues provide a useful breakdown but are not official reportable segments. Enzyme Therapies contributed about $2.106 billion, or 65% of total revenue, across VIMIZIM (MPS IVA), NAGLAZYME (MPS VI), PALYNZIQ (PKU), ALDURAZYME (MPS I), and BRINEURA (CLN2).[15][16] VOXZOGO, for achondroplasia, contributed about $927 million (29%); KUVAN, for PKU, about $100 million (3%); and ROCTAVIAN, for severe hemophilia A, about $36 million (1%).[15][17] Percentages are approximate, based on FY2025 total revenue of $3.221 billion; product revenues are rounded, and the total also includes royalty and other revenue.[16] [13]

Company history

BioMarin grew out of Glyko Biomedical’s drug-development business and was founded in March 1997 in Novato, California. It went public in 1999. The company’s early milestones included FDA approval of Aldurazyme in 2003, Naglazyme in 2005, and Kuvan in 2007, establishing its focus on treatments for rare diseases.[18]

The portfolio expanded with U.S. approvals for Vimizim in 2014, Brineura in 2017, Palynziq in 2018, and Voxzogo in 2021. In 2015, BioMarin acquired global rights to Kuvan and Palynziq from Merck Serono, with an exception for Kuvan in Japan.[1][20]

Roctavian received European approval in 2022 and U.S. approval in 2023. In December 2023, Alexander Hardy became president and CEO, succeeding Jean-Jacques Bienaimé. BioMarin completed its acquisition of Inozyme in July 2025 and of Amicus Therapeutics in April 2026.[1] [19]
