Company profile

BCE INC

Updated

Overview

BCE Inc. is a Montréal-headquartered communications and media company. Through Bell, it provides wireless and fibre connectivity, enterprise communications and technology services, and digital media. BCE describes Bell as Canada’s largest communications company and states its purpose as “advancing how Canadians connect with each other and the world.” [1][2]

BCE reports its operations in three segments: Bell Communication and Technology Services Canada, Bell Communication and Technology Services U.S., and Bell Media. Canada is its principal market, with a U.S. communications and technology services business.[1] [1]

Products & services

BCE’s Bell services include mobile voice and data, home Internet, television and residential phone service. Bell markets 5G and 5G+ mobile connectivity and Fibe fibre Internet; advertised Fibe plans include download and upload speeds of up to 3 Gbps, subject to availability and equipment requirements. Its television offerings include Fibe TV, which delivers live and on-demand programming over Internet connections, and Bell Satellite TV.[3] [3]

Geographic presence

BCE is headquartered in Montréal, Québec, and its principal operating market is Canada. Its communications footprint spans multiple regions: Bell Canada serves markets including Ontario and Québec, Bell Aliant serves Atlantic Canada, and Bell MTS operates in Manitoba. BCE also provides wireless services across Canada.[2][7] [2][7]

Business segments

BCE reports three operating segments: Bell Communication and Technology Services (Bell CTS) Canada, Bell CTS U.S., and Bell Media. Bell CTS Canada covers Canadian wireless and wireline communications and technology services. Bell CTS U.S. covers its U.S. communications operations, including Ziply Fiber, which joined BCE in 2025. Bell Media comprises television, radio and digital media activities.[8]

The Canada and U.S. segments are distinct components of BCE’s communications and technology services business; Bell Media is the separate media segment. BCE previously presented Bell CTS as a combined segment, so segment comparisons across reporting periods require care. A reliable percentage contribution for each of the three current segments could not be established from the available figures.[8] [8]

Company history

BCE traces its roots to the Bell Telephone Company of Canada, incorporated in 1880. Bell Canada Enterprises Inc. was established as Bell Canada’s parent company in 1983, when BCE shares began trading in place of Bell Canada shares.[9][10]

In 2000, BCE distributed a substantial portion of its Nortel Networks holdings to shareholders. It expanded into television and media in 2011 by acquiring the remaining interest in CTV that it did not already own and launching Bell Media. BCE then acquired the remaining publicly held shares of Bell Aliant in 2014 and completed its acquisition of Manitoba Telecom Services in 2017, launching Bell MTS.[11] [9]
