Overview
Avanza Bank Holding AB (Avanza) is a Swedish digital bank and savings-and-investment platform. Its offerings include shares, funds, savings accounts, mortgages and pensions, with savings and investing in Sweden at the core of its business. The group includes Avanza Bank, Avanza Pension and Avanza Fonder.[1][2]
Sweden is Avanza’s principal market, and its platform also provides access to international securities. The company describes its vision as “to create a better future for millions of people,” with an aim to make saving and investing cheaper, better and simpler.[3][4]
Founded in 1999, Avanza reported total operating income of SEK 4,495 million for FY2025. At year-end 2025, it had 828 employees by headcount (722 full-time equivalents) and reported more than 2.3 million customers. FY2025 is the latest full-year reporting period identified; the latest interim report identified covered Q2 2026.[5][6][7][2][8][9] [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][7][8][9][2][3][4][5][8]
Products & services
Avanza offers savings and investment products, including securities trading through ISK and ordinary share-and-fund accounts, as well as savings accounts with variable or fixed interest and Swedish deposit-guarantee coverage. In Q2 2026 it introduced Avanza Sverige, a Swedish equity index fund covering companies representing 99% of the Stockholm Stock Exchange’s value, with a 0.17% fee.[10][11][12][13]
Other offerings include Avanza Auto, a set of six funds spanning different risk levels that are automatically optimized and rebalanced; mortgage products offered through partners including Stabelo and Landshypotek; and capital insurance for long-term saving.[14][15][16] For occupational pensions, Autopension automatically adjusts investment risk according to the customer’s age, while Lifeplan provides digital, independent pension advice to corporate pension customers.[17][18][19] [10][17][11][12][13][14][15][16][18][19]
Geographic presence
Avanza Bank Holding’s operating and customer market is Sweden. The Group states that all operations are conducted in Sweden from a single office in Stockholm; its reported geographic footprint is therefore concentrated in Sweden rather than spread across multiple established markets.[20]
International growth has been described as a future opportunity, with the company targeting entry into at least one additional European market by 2030.[21] In H1 2026, it reported preparations to enter Denmark, including establishing a branch, recruiting key staff and developing a go-to-market plan; this describes market-entry activity, not established Danish operations or revenue.[22][23] The reviewed reporting does not provide a country-by-country revenue split or employee distribution. [20][21][22][23]
Business segments
Avanza reports one IFRS 8 operating segment: the Group is monitored as a whole, with operating profit followed at Group level, rather than as separately reported business-line segments.[24]
In its FY2025 business-line revenue breakdown, Avanza reported banking activities of SEK 3,335 million (approximately 74% of total revenue), insurance of SEK 1,063 million (24%), and asset management of SEK 97 million (2%).[25] The report associates these areas with Avanza Bank, Avanza Pension and Avanza Fonder, respectively.[26][27][1] These are revenue shares, not separately disclosed profit contributions, and do not represent separate IFRS 8 operating segments.[24][25] [24][25][26][27][1]
Company history
Avanza was founded in 1999 by Sven Hagströmer to make stock trading more accessible to individual investors. In 2001, HQ.SE Aktiespar acquired Avanza and adopted the Avanza name.[28][29]
The company received a banking licence in 2005. In 2006, it launched Avanza Zero, described by the company as Sweden’s first completely fee-free fund, expanded into occupational pensions and acquired Börsveckan AB to strengthen its analysis offering.[28][30][31]
In 2013, Avanza introduced Superbolånet, initially for eligible Private Banking customers, and announced plans to expand its occupational-pension sales team and open a Gothenburg office. The company reported passing one million customers who owned shares and one million who invested in funds in 2021.[32][33][28]
Gustaf Unger became CEO in March 2024. In 2025, Avanza acquired all shares in Sigmastocks AB and Sigmastocks Neo AB, adding technology intended to support a digital discretionary-management offer for Private Banking customers.[34][1] [1][28][29][30][31][32][33][34]
