AtriCure, Inc.

Updated

Overview

AtriCure, Inc. is a medical-device company focused on surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation (Afib), management of the left atrial appendage, and post-operative pain relief. Its products include cardiac ablation systems, AtriClip devices for left atrial appendage exclusion, and probes used for temporary post-operative pain relief. The company’s stated mission is “healing the lives of those affected by Afib and pain after surgery.” [1]

AtriCure sells to medical centers globally through direct sales and distributors. Its direct-sales markets include the United States, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Benelux, Australia, and Canada.[6][7] The company reported FY2025 revenue of $534.5 million and revenue of $294.9 million for the six months ended June 30, 2026. Its website reports more than 1,400 employees worldwide.[8] [1]

Products & services

AtriCure’s AtriClip System is an implantable clip and single-use applier used to exclude the left atrial appendage from outside the heart. By closing off blood flow between the appendage and atrium, it is designed to exclude the appendage without placing an implant in contact with circulating blood. The system includes different clip geometries, lengths and applier configurations for varying anatomy and surgical access.[2]

For cardiac ablation, the single-use Isolator Synergy RF clamp system connects to an RF generator and uses parallel-closing jaws to compress tissue and clear blood and fluid from the energy pathway. EnCompass is designed for cardiac soft-tissue ablation and to facilitate concomitant surgical ablation; EnCapture is an Isolator Synergy clamp configuration designed to facilitate engagement with cardiac tissue. For minimally invasive procedures, EPi-Sense Guided Coagulation and EPi-Sense ST use monopolar RF energy and can sense and record intraoperative cardiac signals when connected to an external recording device.[10]

AtriCure’s cryoSPHERE and cryoICE probes deliver cryogenic energy to intercostal peripheral nerves for temporary pain relief, generally for up to 90 days. cryoSPHERE+ concentrates energy at the ball tip and is described as reducing freeze time by 25%; cryoSPHERE MAX has a larger ball tip and freeze times reported as 50% shorter than first-generation cryoSPHERE and more than 30% shorter than cryoSPHERE+. The cryoXT device is cleared for Cryo Nerve Block in amputation patients and has a multi-surface-freezing tip designed to target exposed peripheral nerves.[3]

The company also offers physician and healthcare-professional education and training, including virtual proctoring, observerships, peer-to-peer case reviews and courses for advanced-practice providers. AtriCure reports as one operating segment; the available disclosures describe product-franchise performance qualitatively but do not provide revenue percentages by product category.[16][17] [2]

Geographic presence

AtriCure’s operations are concentrated in Mason, Ohio, where its global headquarters and principal operating campus house administrative, clinical, regulatory, engineering, product-development, quality, and manufacturing functions. The company describes manufacturing as highly centralized at this Ohio campus; its facilities there include a headquarters, distribution warehouse, and manufacturing building.[18] The company also lists offices in Amsterdam, Minnesota, and California.[22]

For the six months ended June 30, 2026, revenue was $241.793 million in the United States (82.0% of total), $33.281 million in Europe (11.3%), $15.711 million in Asia Pacific (5.3%), and $4.068 million in Other International (1.4%).[23] In its FY2025 reporting, AtriCure described direct sales in the United States, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Benelux, Canada, and Australia; it also uses distributors in Asia, South America, and certain European countries, including Japan and China.[24][25] The FY2025 10-K reported approximately 330 U.S. sales-team employees and 75 international sales-team employees; these figures describe the sales team, not the company’s full workforce distribution.[24] [18]

Business segments

AtriCure reports one operating segment, rather than separate reportable business segments. Its activities encompass developing, manufacturing, and selling devices for surgical cardiac-tissue ablation, left atrial appendage exclusion, and temporary peripheral-nerve ablation. The product categories below are revenue disaggregations, not separately reported operating segments.[26][17]

For the six months ended June 30, 2026, approximate shares of total revenue were appendage management 42.1% ($124.0 million), focused on mechanical exclusion of the left atrial appendage; open ablation 34.2% ($100.7 million), for cardiac-tissue ablation during open-heart procedures; pain management 18.2% ($53.8 million), using cryo probes for temporary nerve blocks; and minimally invasive ablation 5.5% ($16.4 million), for standalone minimally invasive and hybrid procedures. Shares are calculated from the reported U.S. and international product-type revenues and total revenue.[27] [26]

Company history

AtriCure traces its origins to Enable Medical in 1994 and was established as a separate company in 2000 through a spin-off; it was incorporated in Delaware on October 31, 2000.[31][32] Its bipolar ablation system received clearance in 2001, entered the market in 2002, and was part of the company’s first commercial sale in 2003.[31]

AtriCure completed its initial public offering and acquired Enable Medical in 2005.[33] In 2011, the FDA approved its Isolator Synergy system for treating certain patients with persistent atrial fibrillation during concomitant open-heart surgery.[34] The company expanded through the 2013 acquisition of Endoscopic Technologies (Estech) and subsequent acquisitions, including nContact Surgical in 2014 and SentreHEART in 2019.[35] In 2021, FDA approval of the EPi-Sense system extended its approved treatment options for long-standing persistent atrial fibrillation.[37] [R1][R2][R3][R4][R5][R6][R7][R8][R9][https://www.atricure.com/history-timeline][https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1323885/000119312505152683/ds1a.htm][https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1323885/000119312505168866/dex994.htm][https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfpma/pma.cfm?id=P100046][https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1323885/000119312513479155/d647605dex991.htm][https://ir.atricure.com/news-releases/news-release-details/atricure-enters-definitive-agreement-acquire-sentreheart?_sp=40ed3c7b-a131-4f3c-bc1a-00493a2d6705][https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/recently-approved-devices/epi-senser-guided-coagulation-system-p200002]
