Products & services
Atlassian’s product portfolio is centered on collaboration, software delivery, and service-management tools. Its primary products are Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, and Loom, with additional products including Trello, Jira Align, Bitbucket, Atlassian Guard, Compass, and Jira Product Discovery.[13][14] Jira is described as a flexible project-management system for planning, organizing, tracking, and managing work, with multiple views, customizable dashboards, automation, and reporting.[15] Confluence is a connected workspace for creating, organizing, finding, and sharing information, with content structured into spaces containing pages, whiteboards, video messages, and databases.[16] Jira Service Management provides service and support functionality such as virtual support agents, service portals, and change, incident, and automation capabilities.[17] Loom adds asynchronous video communication for collaboration.[18][19]
Other product offerings extend the suite into productivity, DevOps, security, and planning. Trello organizes tasks into lists and boards and shows ownership and progress status.[20] Bitbucket is an enterprise-ready Git solution for managing, collaborating on, and deploying code.[21] Atlassian Guard provides enterprise-wide security and centralized administration across cloud products, while Compass is a developer portal for tracking engineering components and output.[22][23][24][25] Jira Product Discovery is positioned as a prioritization and roadmapping tool.[26] Atlassian also operates Marketplace, an online marketplace for free and paid apps, and Forge, its cloud app-development platform for customizing, extending, and integrating cloud products.[27][28]
The company offers both Cloud and Data Center versions of certain products. Geographic presence
Atlassian’s customer base spans 200 countries and territories, and the company reports revenue geographically based on the location of end users who purchase its products or services.[33][34] In fiscal 2024, the Americas generated $2.125 billion of revenue, or 48.8% of total revenue, including $1.847 billion from the United States; EMEA generated $1.751 billion, or 40.2%, including $442.1 million from Germany; and Asia Pacific generated $482.3 million, or 11.1%.[35]
Atlassian’s physical asset base is concentrated in the United States and Australia. As of June 30, 2024, long-lived assets were $189.5 million in the United States, $47.1 million in Australia, and $22.2 million in all other countries, equal to roughly 73.2%, 18.2%, and 8.6% of the total, respectively.[36][37] Its principal offices comprised about 146,000 square feet in Sydney and 147,000 square feet in the San Francisco Bay Area, and it also leased offices in Austin, Bellevue, New York, the Netherlands, Melbourne, Japan, the Philippines, India, Poland, and Turkey.[38] The company has also committed to a new global headquarters in Sydney, Australia, with the lease expected to commence in fiscal 2027 for an initial 15-year term.[39]
Atlassian describes its workforce as distributed geographically. As of June 30, 2024, it had 12,157 full-time employees, and the vast majority were offered the option to work from home, from physical offices, or a combination of both within 14 countries under its Team Anywhere model.[40][41] [33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41]
Business segments
Atlassian officially reports a single operating and reportable segment rather than multiple business segments. The company says its chief operating decision maker uses consolidated net loss and other consolidated financial information to allocate resources and assess performance, so Atlassian does not disclose separate operating-segment names or segment-level profit measures.[42][43]
The main official business breakdown is revenue disaggregation by deployment option. In FY2025, Cloud offerings — subscription-based access to software hosted on Atlassian infrastructure — generated $3.45 billion, about 66% of revenue; Data Center offerings — on-premises term licenses sold for a specified period with bundled support and maintenance — generated $1.47 billion, about 28%; Marketplace and other — primarily third-party app sales through the Atlassian Marketplace plus advisory and training services — generated $0.30 billion, about 6%; and Server contributed 0%, with server-related maintenance now immaterial and classified within other revenues after end of support.[44][45][46]
Atlassian also presents revenue in two broader categories rather than additional operating segments: subscription and other. For FY2025, subscription revenue was $4.93 billion, or about 95% of total revenue, while other revenue was $0.28 billion, or about 5%; maintenance is no longer shown separately and has been reclassified into other revenue. Company history
Atlassian was founded in 2002 in Sydney, Australia, by Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar. Its early growth was built around internally developed team software: Jira was first released in 2002, and Confluence followed soon after. Atlassian remained self-funded and profitable from inception until it raised $60 million from Accel Partners in 2010, its first outside financing.[53][54][55][56]
The company later expanded through acquisitions as well as product development. It acquired HipChat in 2012, went public in December 2015 with shares beginning to trade on Nasdaq under the symbol TEAM, and then broadened its collaboration and IT operations portfolio through acquisitions including Trello in 2017, OpsGenie in 2018, AgileCraft in 2019, and Loom in 2023.[57][58][59][60][61][62] [53][54][55][56][57][58][59][60][61][62]
