Company history
The Braves franchise traces its origins to the Boston Red Stockings in 1871; it moved to Milwaukee in 1953 and to Atlanta in 1966. Ted Turner became the team’s owner in 1976.[23][24][25] Liberty Media acquired the Braves from Time Warner in 2007, and in 2016 placed the business in its Liberty Braves tracking-stock group.[26][27][28]
In 2013, the Braves announced plans to leave Turner Field and build a new ballpark in Cobb County; the stadium, then named SunTrust Park, opened in 2017, alongside the first phase of The Battery Atlanta mixed-use development.[29][30][31] In July 2023, Liberty completed a split-off that made Atlanta Braves Holdings a separately publicly traded company, comprising the businesses and assets previously attributed to the Liberty Braves Group.[27][32][33] [23][27][31][32][24][25][26][28][29][30][33]
