ASE Technology Holding Co., Ltd. is a Taiwan-based semiconductor manufacturing services group formed in 2018 through the combination of ASE and SPIL. It provides semiconductor packaging, assembly and testing, alongside electronic manufacturing services through USI. Its capabilities span work on semiconductor components and the assembly of electronic products.[1][2]
The group has manufacturing operations across Asia, the Americas and Europe. Its stated mission is to combine the strengths of its member companies to develop integrated solutions and support customers’ next-generation products. Products & services
ASE Technology Holding’s semiconductor products and services center on packaging, testing and interconnect materials. Its packaging portfolio includes wafer-level chip-scale packages (aCSP), flip-chip chip-scale and ball-grid-array packages, package-in-package (PiP), package-on-package (PoP), stacked-die packages and 2.5D/3D integration. Its system-in-package (SiP) services combine multiple chips and other components in one package; advanced offerings include fan-out wafer-level packaging, FOCoS and FOCoS-Bridge.[7][8][9]
Testing services span wafer probing, final test, burn-in, SiP and module testing, and system-level testing. The company tests logic, mixed-signal and radio-frequency devices, among others, and reports capabilities for digital testing above 44 Gbps and 5G millimeter-wave testing above 44 GHz.[10][11] Through USI Group, it also provides electronics design and manufacturing services for products including server and PC motherboards, solid-state drives, Wi-Fi modules, automotive electronics and industrial point-of-sale devices.[12][13][14][15][16][17] In 2024, packaging accounted for 44.0% of operating revenue, testing for 9.2% and electronics manufacturing services for 45.6%.[10] [7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17]
Geographic presence
ASE Technology Holding is based in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Its principal manufacturing facilities span Taiwan, mainland China, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam, the United States, Mexico and several European countries. Locations include Kaohsiung and Chung Li in Taiwan; Shanghai, Wuxi, Kunshan and other cities in China; Penang, Malaysia; and sites in California and Mexico.[18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25]
In 2025, revenue attributed to customers’ headquarters locations totaled NT$645.4 billion. The United States accounted for approximately 56.7%, Taiwan 18.0%, other Asian markets 15.2%, Europe 10.1%, and other locations 0.1%. These figures describe customer headquarters rather than shipment destinations; China is not separately identified in the revenue breakdown.[26] At year-end 2025, approximately 75.4% of reported geographically allocated non-current assets were in Taiwan, 13.8% in China and 10.8% elsewhere.[27] [18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][26][26][26][26][26][27][27][27][27]
Business segments
ASE Technology Holding reports four business segments: Packaging, Testing, electronic manufacturing services (EMS), and Others. Packaging assembles bare semiconductor dies into finished devices, including wire-bonded, flip-chip and wafer-level packages. Testing covers services such as wafer probing, final testing and system-level testing. EMS designs and manufactures electronic products and components, including circuit-board and system assemblies. Others includes activities that are not separately reportable, such as substrate production and real-estate sales and leasing.[28][29][30][31]
Based on 2025 revenue from external customers, Packaging contributed approximately 47.8% of revenue, Testing 11.1%, EMS 39.9%, and Others 1.2%. Packaging and Testing together—often discussed as assembly and test operations—accounted for approximately 58.9%. Company history
Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE), the predecessor of ASE Technology Holding, was founded in 1984 by brothers Jason and Richard Chang and began operations in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. ASE expanded from semiconductor packaging into testing in 1990 and established packaging and testing operations in Malaysia in 1991. In 1999, it acquired Motorola manufacturing facilities in Taiwan and Korea and began investing in Universal Scientific Industrial (USI), extending its activities into electronic systems assembly. ASE began trading on the New York Stock Exchange in 2000.[34]
USI became an ASE subsidiary in 2010, and its Shanghai-listed business completed an initial public offering in 2012. ASE began acquiring shares in fellow Taiwanese packaging and testing company Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL) in 2015. The two companies agreed in 2016 to combine under a new holding company; on April 30, 2018, ASE Technology Holding was established through a share exchange that made ASE and SPIL its wholly owned subsidiaries.[35][36][37][38] [35][36][37][38][34]
