Company profile

ARROWHEAD PHARMACEUTICALS, INC.

Updated

Overview

Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company developing RNA interference (RNAi) medicines that silence genes involved in disease. Its TRiM platform is designed to deliver these therapies to specific tissues. The company’s portfolio spans cardiometabolic, liver, pulmonary and neuromuscular diseases; its approved medicine REDEMPLO (plozasiran) treats familial chylomicronemia syndrome in adults.[1]

Arrowhead is headquartered in Pasadena, California, with research laboratories in California and Wisconsin and subsidiaries in Australia, Ireland and New Zealand. The company describes its mission as improving lives through innovative science, with patients at the center of its work. For fiscal 2025, it reported $829.448 million in revenue and 711 employees as of September 30, 2025.[4] [1]

Products & services

Arrowhead’s commercial product is REDEMPLO® (plozasiran, formerly ARO-APOC3), an siRNA medicine approved as an adjunct to diet to reduce triglycerides in adults with familial chylomicronemia syndrome. It is designed to silence APOC3 in the liver, reducing apolipoprotein C-III, a protein that contributes to elevated triglycerides. The company has also described development for severe hypertriglyceridemia.[3] The product had approvals for FCS in the United States, European Union, China, Canada, and Australia as of the company’s Q3 FY2026 report.[9]

Arrowhead’s other disclosed products are investigational RNAi candidates. Zodasiran (ARO-ANG3) targets liver-derived ANGPTL3 and is being studied for homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia; ARO-DIMER-PA is a dual-target candidate for mixed hyperlipidemia designed to silence PCSK9 and APOC3 in liver cells.[11] Other programs include ARO-PNPLA3 for MASH; ARO-INHBE and ARO-ALK7 for obesity; ARO-RAGE for inflammatory pulmonary disease; ARO-MAPT for tauopathies, including Alzheimer’s disease; and ARO-C3 and ARO-CFB for complement-mediated renal diseases.[14]

The company’s TRiM platform combines an RNA trigger with targeting ligands and chemical modifications intended to support delivery and stability of RNAi medicines.[28] Partner-related work includes research and development, discovery and preclinical activities for selected targets, and certain material manufacturing and supply.[31] Company filings do not separately quantify REDEMPLO revenue as a percentage of company performance; reported partner-agreement revenues are not attributed to individual products.[34][35] [3]

Geographic presence

Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals’ disclosed operating footprint is concentrated in the United States. Its headquarters are in Pasadena, California, at 177 East Colorado Boulevard, Suite 700; the company also lists research and development locations in Madison, Wisconsin, and San Diego, California, and a chemistry and manufacturing site in Verona, Wisconsin. The FY2026 third-quarter filing describes office and R&D space in San Diego and expanded manufacturing facilities in Verona.[36]

As of September 30, 2025, Arrowhead reported 711 full-time employees based at its four U.S. facilities in Pasadena, San Diego, Madison, and Verona. It did not provide employee counts by location.[40][41] The FY2025 annual report identifies subsidiaries in Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland, but the available disclosures do not establish staffed operations or employee numbers in those countries.[42]

The company’s FY2025 annual report and FY2026 third-quarter filing do not provide revenue or sales by country or region, so a geographic revenue mix cannot be stated.[43][44] [36]

Business segments

Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals reports one operating and reportable segment: RNAi therapeutics discovery, development, manufacturing, and commercialization. Its chief operating decision maker manages the business and allocates resources on a consolidated basis, rather than across separately reported business segments.[45][46]

As a view of revenue by collaboration counterparty—not a company-reported segment breakdown—for the nine months ended June 30, 2026, Sarepta contributed approximately 72% of total revenue, Novartis 18%, Madrigal 6%, and Sanofi 3%. These approximate shares are calculated from reported counterparty revenue against total company revenue; Arrowhead does not report them as segment contributions.[47][48] [45]

Company history

Arrowhead Research was formed in 2003 and moved into RNA-interference therapeutics with the creation of Calando in 2005. In 2011, it acquired Roche’s RNA-therapeutics assets and research site, expanding its capabilities in the field.[49]

The company began clinical development of its RNAi candidate ARC-520 in 2013. Following a clinical hold, it discontinued ARC-520 and related programs in 2016 and shifted its research toward newer delivery approaches; that year, it changed its name from Arrowhead Research Corporation to Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals, Inc. It also acquired Novartis’s RNAi research and development portfolio in 2015.[52]

Arrowhead introduced its TRiM platform in 2017, and its ARO-HBV program entered clinical testing in 2018. That year, it licensed ARO-HBV to Janssen and entered a broader RNAi research collaboration with the company. Subsequent partnerships included agreements with Amgen, Takeda and GSK for development of other RNAi programs.[57]

In 2024, Arrowhead announced a global licensing and collaboration agreement with Sarepta Therapeutics for RNAi programs targeting muscle diseases. In November 2025, the FDA approved plozasiran, marketed as REDEMPLO, for adults with familial chylomicronemia syndrome, marking Arrowhead’s first FDA-approved medicine.[63][64]
