Overview
ANZ Group Holdings Limited is a banking and financial services group headquartered in Australia. It serves individuals, businesses and institutional clients through consumer banking, commercial banking and institutional banking, including lending, deposits and transaction services. Australia and New Zealand are its principal markets, with operations extending across the Pacific and parts of Asia, Europe and the Americas. Suncorp Bank became part of the group in 2024.[1][2][3]
ANZ states its purpose as “to shape a world where people and communities thrive.” It serves more than 8.5 million retail and business customers across close to 30 markets. For the financial year ended September 2025, it reported A$22.2 billion in statutory operating income; a third-party data provider reports approximately 42,700 employees at that date.[4][5][6][7] [1][2][4][6][3][5][7]
Products & services
ANZ offers personal banking products including transaction and savings accounts, term deposits, home loans, personal loans and credit cards. Its home loans include fixed- and variable-rate options, with offset and redraw features on eligible products; its cards include low-rate, low-fee, rewards and frequent-flyer options. ANZ Plus is a digital banking offering with an everyday account and Visa debit card, a Growth Saver account, and app features such as savings goals, spending insights, Round-Ups and card controls.[8][9][10][11][12]
For businesses, ANZ provides transaction accounts, secured and unsecured loans, overdrafts, and vehicle and equipment finance. Eligible businesses can apply online for loans and overdrafts through ANZ GoBiz. Its institutional services include payments and collections, liquidity and cash management, trade finance, lending, and financial-markets products covering foreign exchange, interest rates, credit and commodities. Geographic presence
ANZ Group Holdings is headquartered in Melbourne, Australia, and operates in 29 markets across Australia, New Zealand and other international markets. Its banking operations include businesses focused on Australia and New Zealand, while its Institutional division serves customers across those countries and international markets.[19][1]
In the year ended September 2025, ANZ reported A$21.9 billion in operating income. Its Australia Retail, Australia Commercial and Suncorp Bank divisions together accounted for A$11.1 billion, or about 51% of the total; the New Zealand division accounted for A$3.6 billion, or about 17%. Institutional accounted for A$6.8 billion, or about 31%, but operates across multiple geographies, so these divisional figures are not a country-by-country revenue breakdown.[20]
At September 2025, ANZ had 42,698 full-time-equivalent employees: 20,899 in Australia, 6,758 in New Zealand and 15,041 in the rest of the world.[21] [1][20][21][19]
Business segments
ANZ Group Holdings reports six customer-facing segments. Australia Retail serves personal banking customers in Australia, while Australia Commercial serves Australian business customers. Institutional serves corporate and institutional customers across multiple markets. New Zealand covers banking operations in that country; Suncorp Bank is reported separately as an Australian banking business; and Pacific covers operations in Pacific markets. Group Centre is presented separately from these segments.[22]
Based on FY2025 segment operating income, Institutional contributed approximately 31% of the Group total, Australia Retail 27%, New Zealand 17%, Australia Commercial 16%, Suncorp Bank 8% and Pacific 1%. Group Centre accounted for the remaining approximately 1%. These are approximate shares calculated from the segment-results schedule’s operating income figures, which are presented on a cash-profit basis rather than as statutory Group operating income.[23] [24][24][24][24][24][24][24][24][22][23]
Company history
ANZ traces its origins to the Bank of Australasia, which began establishing a presence in Australia in 1835. In 1951, that bank merged with the Union Bank of Australia to form the Australia and New Zealand Bank. A further merger with the English, Scottish and Australian Bank in 1970 created Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited.[19][25][26]
The group expanded through acquisitions, including Grindlays Bank in 1984 and The National Bank of New Zealand in 2003.[27][28] In January 2023, a corporate restructure established ANZ Group Holdings Limited as the listed parent of the group. ANZ completed its acquisition of Suncorp Bank in July 2024.[29][3] [19][25][26][27][28][29][3]
