ANTERO RESOURCES Corp

Updated

Overview

Antero Resources Corp. is an independent exploration and production company in the oil and gas sector. Its business is to explore for, develop, produce and acquire natural gas, natural gas liquids (NGLs) and oil properties, with operations focused on the Appalachian Basin, particularly West Virginia and Ohio.[1] The company’s history states that it was formed in 2002 to pursue opportunities in unconventional resources.[2]

Antero reported 2025 total revenue of $5.276 billion; revenue for the six months ended June 30, 2026, was $3.505 billion.[3][4] [1]

Products & services

Antero Resources sells natural gas, ethane (C2), other natural gas liquids (reported together as C3+ NGLs), and oil. For FY2025, production was 808 Bcf of natural gas, 29.842 million barrels of C2 ethane, 42.010 million barrels of C3+ NGLs, and 2.899 million barrels of oil. The company reported no separate product-grade or purity specifications for these products.[5]

In FY2025, natural gas accounted for 57% of production revenue, while NGLs and oil combined accounted for 43%; the company did not provide a split of that combined share. It also reported $2.9 billion in natural-gas sales revenue, $2.0 billion from NGLs, and $150 million from oil.[6]

The company’s natural gas is gathered, compressed, processed, and transported by Antero Midstream or other third parties before sale at contracted delivery points. Antero also purchases and resells third-party natural gas and NGLs and markets excess firm transportation capacity to third parties.[11][12] [5]

Geographic presence

Antero Resources’ operations are concentrated in the Appalachian Basin, particularly the Marcellus Shale in West Virginia. Its 2025 year-end disclosures also identified producing properties and proved reserves in Ohio. In 2026, the company added approximately 385,000 net acres in the core Marcellus area of West Virginia and completed the sale of its Utica Shale assets in February, shifting its footprint further toward West Virginia.[13]

Antero’s production comes from the continental United States, although some revenue is from customers that export its products; the company also describes access to domestic and international end markets. The available disclosures do not provide a geographic revenue breakdown.[6][16] Its corporate headquarters are in Denver, Colorado, at 1615 Wynkoop Street.[17][18] [13]

Business segments

Antero Resources reports three segments: **exploration and production**, **marketing**, and its **equity method investment in Antero Midstream**. For the six months ended June 30, 2026, their approximate shares of consolidated third-party revenue were **97.2%**, **2.8%**, and **less than 0.1%**, respectively. These percentages use external revenue; Midstream’s gross segment revenue includes substantial intersegment revenue that is eliminated on consolidation.[19][20]

**Exploration and production** covers upstream production and sales of natural gas, natural gas liquids (NGLs), and oil. **Marketing** includes buying and selling third-party natural gas and NGLs, and marketing or using excess firm transportation capacity. **Antero Midstream** provides gathering, compression, processing and fractionation, and water-handling services and infrastructure; its reported segment contribution to consolidated third-party revenue is minimal because much of its activity serves Antero Resources.[19] [19]

Company history

Antero Resources was founded in 2002 by Paul M. Rady and Glen C. Warren Jr. and initially operated in Texas’s Barnett Shale, selling those assets to XTO in 2005. The company entered the Appalachian Basin in 2008 by acquiring about 115,000 net acres in the Marcellus Shale, and drilled its first operated Marcellus wells in 2009.[22][2]

In 2012, Antero sold its Arkoma and Piceance assets, sharpening its focus on the Marcellus and Utica shales. It completed its initial public offering on October 16, 2013, and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange as AR.[23]

Antero expanded its midstream operations through the 2014 public offering of Antero Midstream Partners and a 2015 transaction transferring its integrated water business to the partnership. In 2018, company history records that production exceeded 3 Bcfe per day and Antero became the largest U.S. natural gas liquids producer.[2][27]

In August 2025, Michael N. Kennedy succeeded co-founder Paul Rady as president and CEO; Rady became Chairman Emeritus.[28] [23]
