Company history
Amphenol traces its roots to 1932, when Arthur Schmitt founded the American Phenolic Corporation in Chicago, Illinois.[31] An earlier Amphenol entity was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1957, merged with G.W. Borg Corporation in 1958 and took the name Amphenol Borg, and was then acquired by Bunker Ramo in 1967.[31]
The present company states that certain predecessor businesses were founded in 1932, that Amphenol was incorporated in Delaware in 1986, and that its Class A common stock began trading on the New York Stock Exchange in 1991.[32] In the following decades, Amphenol expanded both organically and through acquisitions; notable examples include the 2005 agreement to acquire Teradyne’s Connection Systems division and the 2009 addition of Times Microwave Systems.[33][34] The company later described pursuing strategic acquisitions and investments as a formal part of its strategy, reflecting how dealmaking became a recurring element of its development.[35] [32][35][31][33][34]
