Overview

AMETEK, Inc. is a global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices. Its Electronic Instruments Group makes instruments for process, power, industrial and aerospace applications. Its Electromechanical Group supplies products including precision motion-control systems, medical components and devices, thermal-management systems, specialty metals and electrical interconnects. Together, the groups serve customers in industrial, aerospace and defense, medical and automation markets.[1]

AMETEK describes its purpose in terms of solving customers’ complex challenges with differentiated technology solutions. It has operations across North America, Europe, Asia and South America. In 2025, it reported approximately $7.4 billion in net sales and employed approximately 22,200 people at year-end.[2] [1]

Products & services

AMETEK’s Electronic Instruments Group makes analytical, test and measurement equipment. Its process and analytical products include process-control instruments, spectrometers, materials-analysis and optical-metrology equipment, and instruments for research laboratories and ultraprecise manufacturing. These products accounted for 69% of the group’s 2024 sales. Its aerospace and power products include aircraft and engine sensors, monitoring and data-acquisition systems, fuel and fluid measurement systems, power-quality meters, uninterruptible power systems, programmable power equipment and electromagnetic-compatibility test equipment. They accounted for the remaining 31%. The group also sells aerospace spare parts and provides repair and overhaul services.[7] [7]

Geographic presence

AMETEK is headquartered in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, and has manufacturing operations in 20 countries outside the United States. Its significant international manufacturing locations include Canada, China, France, Germany, Mexico, Poland, Serbia and the United Kingdom.[12][13] Its operating-facility footprint also extends to countries including Argentina, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Malaysia, Switzerland and Taiwan.[14][15]

In 2024, the United States accounted for $3.65 billion, or about 52.6%, of AMETEK’s $6.94 billion in net sales; international markets accounted for $3.29 billion, or 47.4%.[16][13] Sales to customers in Asia were $1.43 billion, followed by European Union countries at $976.7 million, other foreign countries at $649.4 million and the United Kingdom at $233.5 million. Geographic sales are attributed according to customer location rather than the location of AMETEK’s facilities.[16][17] [12]

Business segments

AMETEK reports two business segments. The Electronic Instruments Group (EIG) makes process and analytical instruments, power-monitoring and measurement equipment, and aerospace instruments and systems. Its products serve markets including life sciences, semiconductors, energy and aviation. EIG generated approximately 66% of AMETEK’s 2025 net sales.[18][4]

The Electromechanical Group (EMG) supplies engineered components and systems, including precision motion-control products, medical components, specialty metals, heat exchangers and motors. It also provides aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul services. EMG generated approximately 34% of 2025 net sales. AMETEK’s product-category reporting places process and analytical instrumentation in EIG and automation and engineered solutions in EMG; both segments contribute to the aerospace and power category.[19] [18]

Company history

AMETEK traces its origins to 1930, when its predecessor was incorporated in Delaware as American Machine and Metals, Inc.[12] By 2010, the company was organized around electronic instruments and electromechanical products, and acquisitions had become a significant part of its growth strategy: it completed 27 acquisitions from 2006 through 2010.[22]

AMETEK continued to expand its portfolio through acquisitions in the following decade, including Zygo, an optical-metrology company, in 2014.[25] By the end of 2016, David A. Zapico had become chief executive officer, succeeding Frank S. Hermance, who served as executive chairman.[26] The acquisition-led expansion continued with purchases including Abaco Systems in 2021 and Paragon Medical in 2023.[27][28] [12]
