Products & services
AIXTRON’s product portfolio includes MOCVD equipment for compound-semiconductor epitaxy. The G10-SiC system targets SiC power-device production and accommodates 9 × 150 mm or 6 × 200 mm wafers per run. The G10-GaN is a fully automated cluster system for GaN power devices, configured for 8 × 150 mm or 5 × 200 mm wafers.[12][13] The G10-AsP supports optoelectronic applications such as optical data communications and Micro LEDs, with 150 mm and 200 mm wafer capability.[14][13] AIXTRON also offers Hyperion, a 300 mm GaN MOCVD platform for power-electronics epitaxy, and G5+C, a GaN-on-silicon, sapphire or SiC system.[15][16]
AIXTRON’s services include equipment installation and commissioning, maintenance and repair, troubleshooting, spare parts, on-site technical support, service contracts, upgrades and customer training.[17][18][19] In FY2025, equipment accounted for 80% and after-sales for 20% of revenue. Within equipment, the stated end-application mix was GaN power 29%, SiC power 28%, optoelectronics and communications 23%, LED including Micro LED 15%, and other applications including R&D 5%.[20][21][22] [12][13][14][17][20][21][22][15][16][18][19]
Geographic presence
AIXTRON’s geographic footprint spans Europe, Asia and the Americas. In H1 2026, revenue was €101.2 million from Asia (58%), €37.7 million from Europe (22%) and €35.6 million from the Americas (20%) [23]. At June 30, 2026, it had 1,035 employees: 871 in Europe (84%), 122 in Asia (12%) and 42 in the USA (4%) [24].
For FY2025, Asia generated €332.5 million (59.8% of revenue), Europe €113.6 million (20.4%) and the Americas €110.4 million (19.8%). China was the largest named country market, at €232.4 million (41.8%); other disclosed markets included the USA (€106.1 million; 19.0%), Germany (€51.4 million; 9.2%), Japan (€46.2 million; 8.3%), Taiwan (€35.4 million; 6.4%), Korea (€15.9 million; 2.9%) and Malaysia (€1.7 million; 0.3%) [25].
AIXTRON’s FY2025 facilities listing identifies Herzogenrath, Germany, as its headquarters and a site for R&D, manufacturing, sales and service. Other listed locations are Cambridge, UK (R&D, manufacturing and service); Turin, Italy (production); Heerlen, Netherlands (R&D); Santa Clara, USA (sales and service); and Hwaseong, South Korea, Shanghai, China, Hsinchu, Taiwan and Tokyo, Japan (sales and service), with service in Kulim, Malaysia [26]. The H1 2026 report says the Italian production facility was classified as held for sale in connection with a planned disposal, and notes investment in a new Malaysian production facility [27][28]. Business segments
AIXTRON reports one operating segment, covering its activities serving the semiconductor industry; the business is reviewed on a consolidated basis, so this segment accounts for 100% of reported revenue. Its equipment focuses on deposition processes for compound-semiconductor components, including applications in power electronics and optoelectronics.[29][30][31]
In H1 2026, revenue within that single segment comprised equipment of €122.0 million (about 70% of external revenue), spares of €45.2 million (about 26%), and services of €7.3 million (about 4%). These are revenue categories, not separate reportable segments.[32] The FY2025 report likewise presents equipment, spares and services as revenue categories within the single segment; geographic revenue is also disclosed, but is not a separate operating-segment breakdown.[33][23] [29][30][31][32][33][23]
Company history
AIXTRON was founded in December 1983 as a spin-off from RWTH Aachen’s Institute for Semiconductor Technology by Dr. Holger Jürgensen, Dr. Meino Heyen and Heinrich Schumann. Its first MOCVD system was commissioned in 1985, and in 1994 it introduced a deposition system for blue-LED production. The company went public on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in 1997.[34][35][36]
The company expanded through acquisitions in 1999, taking over the Thomas Swan Scientific Equipment Division and Sweden’s EPIGRESS AB, and later acquired Genus, Inc. in 2005 and Nanoinstruments Ltd. in 2007. In 2010, it opened a research and development center in Herzogenrath and introduced the G5 and CRIUS II systems. AIXTRON subsequently sold its ALD/CVD memory product line in 2017. From 2022 to 2023 it introduced the G10-SiC, G10-AsP and G10-GaN systems; a new Innovation Center in Herzogenrath opened in 2024.[35][37][38][39][40][41][42] [34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41][42]
