ADVANCED DRAINAGE SYSTEMS, INC.

Updated

Overview

Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc. (ADS) manufactures water-management products for the stormwater and onsite wastewater industries, serving residential, non-residential, infrastructure and agricultural markets. Its portfolio includes thermoplastic corrugated pipe, stormwater storage chambers, drainage structures and water-quality products.[1][2]

ADS manufactures and sells products across the United States and internationally, including in Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Mexico and South America.[3] The company’s stated purpose is to protect and manage water while safeguarding the environment and communities.[4] In fiscal 2026, ended March 31, ADS reported net sales of approximately $3.05 billion; its official international page reports more than 5,000 employees.[5][6] [1]

Products & services

ADS offers single-, double- and triple-wall corrugated polyethylene and polypropylene pipe. N-12 dual-wall HDPE combines a corrugated exterior with a smooth interior and push-together bell-and-spigot joints, with soil-tight or watertight coupling options. Single-wall HDPE pipe is used in applications including agricultural drainage, highway edge drains and onsite wastewater, and is available perforated or non-perforated. ADS-3000 triple-wall pipe has a corrugated core and smooth inner and outer walls, designed to provide added stiffness at lower weight than PVC 2729.[2] Its HP Storm and SaniTite HP polypropylene pipe products are described as having greater stiffness than HDPE and improved stress-crack resistance and thermal and joint performance; SaniTite HP’s triple-wall construction is intended for sanitary-sewer applications.[10][11]

Stormwater products include StormTech and Cultec chambers for retention, detention and underground storage; Nyloplast PVC drainage structures, including inline drains, basins, curb inlets and water-control structures; and water-quality products, fittings, Inserta Tee, FlexStorm, NDS channel drains, catch basins and access boxes. Nyloplast structures use rubber-gasket connections designed to be watertight, while NDS channel drains capture and redirect surface water.[12] For onsite wastewater, Quick4, Quick5 and ARC leachfield chambers use recycled polyolefin. ADS also offers AeroFin, Advanced Enviro-Septic, Enviro-Septic and Advanced Treatment Leachfield systems; the described AES/ES products use corrugated tubing with fibrous materials and geotextiles, installed in sand for treatment and dispersal.[16][17]

Services include project-related design and specification guidance, sales and engineering support through bidding and installation, and on-demand installation assistance, as well as education and specification work with agencies and consulting engineers.[18] [2]

Geographic presence

In FY2025, net sales by customer location were $2,709.6 million in the United States (93.3%), $119.5 million in Canada (4.1%) and $75.1 million in Other (2.6%); the filing does not further break down “Other.” [21] The FY2026 filing reports 6,425 employees as of March 31, 2026: 5,785 in the United States, 365 in Canada and 275 in Other.[22][23]

The company reported 64 manufacturing plants and 41 distribution centers. Its Canadian manufacturing serves Canadian markets; international joint ventures serve primarily Mexico, Central America and South America, while wholly owned subsidiaries distribute products in Europe and the Middle East.[24][25] Its principal executive offices and corporate headquarters are in Hilliard, Ohio; it also leases office space in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, for Infiltrator headquarters.[26][27] [21]

Business segments

For FY2026, Advanced Drainage Systems reported two product-based reportable segments following a realignment associated with the NDS acquisition.[29]

Stormwater provides corrugated pipe and related stormwater products, including drainage structures, filters, channel drains, catch basins and access boxes; its markets include the United States and international regions. FY2026 external-customer net sales were approximately $2.40 billion, or 78.6% of consolidated net sales.[12][30]

Wastewater focuses on onsite and decentralized wastewater solutions, including plastic chambers, leachfields, treatment and dispersal systems, tanks and accessories. FY2026 external-customer net sales were approximately $653 million, or 21.4% of consolidated net sales.[31][30]

Before the realignment, the company reported Pipe, International and Infiltrator as reportable segments, with Allied Products & Other also presented separately. Stormwater now primarily combines the former Pipe and International businesses and Allied Products & Other; Wastewater primarily corresponds to the former Infiltrator segment.[32][33] [29]

Company history

Founded in 1966 in Wilmington, Delaware, Advanced Drainage Systems was started by Ron Martin and Marty Sixt to develop drainage systems for agriculture.[34][35]

The company expanded its manufacturing footprint with a new plant in Harrisonville, Missouri, in 2016. In 2017, D. Scott Barbour was named president and CEO, succeeding Joe Chlapaty. ADS priced its initial public offering in 2014 and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange.[36]

A major expansion into wastewater solutions came with the 2019 acquisition of Infiltrator Water Technologies. ADS later broadened its stormwater and wastewater offerings through the 2022 acquisition of Cultec and Infiltrator’s 2024 acquisition of Orenco Systems. In 2025, ADS acquired Midwest pipe manufacturer River Valley Pipe, followed by residential water-management products company National Diversified Sales in 2026.[39] [34]
