Company history

Founded by Ira A. Eichner in Chicago in 1955 as Allen Aircraft Radio, AAR began in aircraft radio and equipment. Its early expansion included opening an FAA repair station in 1962, entering international parts supply in 1965, establishing a component-repair operation in Amsterdam in 1967, adopting the AAR CORP. name in 1969, and acquiring its first airframe maintenance business in 1971.[22][23]

AAR acquired UK-based component repair-management provider Airinmar in 2011, extending its international aviation supply-chain services. In 2018, John M. Holmes succeeded David P. Storch as CEO; Holmes became chairman in 2023.[24]

From 2023 onward, acquisitions broadened AAR’s capabilities: Trax added maintenance and fleet-management software in 2023, Triumph Group’s Product Support business expanded component maintenance and repair in 2024, and American Distributors International added electronic-component distribution in 2025. AAR completed its acquisition of Aircraft Reconfig Technologies in 2026; later that year, it announced an agreement to acquire a controlling interest in MRO Holdings.[27] [27]
