AAON, INC.

Updated

Overview

AAON, Inc. designs and manufactures heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) equipment and liquid-cooling systems for commercial and industrial buildings, data centers and cleanrooms. Its products include rooftop and air-handling units, cooling systems, heat pumps and controls; its reportable segments are AAON Oklahoma, AAON Coil Products and BASX.[1]

The company’s manufacturing footprint includes facilities in Oklahoma, Tennessee, Missouri, Texas and Oregon.[4] AAON reported 2025 net sales of $1.442 billion, and its investor profile states that it has more than 3,000 employees.[8][9] Foreign sales were $38.1 million in 2025, indicating that sales were predominantly domestic.[10] The company describes its founding mission as making “the best HVAC equipment in the world for the best value.” [11] [1]

Products & services

AAON’s product portfolio includes semi-custom and custom rooftop units, air-handling and makeup-air units, energy-recovery systems, condensing units, coils, geothermal and water-source heat pumps, packaged outdoor mechanical rooms, controls, cleanroom systems, and data-center cooling equipment. Its AAON-branded offerings include configurable HVAC systems and controls, while AAON Coil Products supplies heating and cooling coils and HVAC systems, including products used by other AAON businesses.[12]

BASX products include custom data-center cooling systems, cleanroom ventilation, customized air handlers, and modular solutions. Data-center equipment includes direct evaporative coolers, fan-coil walls, computer-room air handlers, overhead fan-coil units, and packaged air-handling systems. BASX’s coolant distribution unit is designed to connect facility-water and technology-cooling loops to server cold plates, with flow, temperature, and pressure control; reported features include support for rack densities above 100 kW, redundant hot-swappable pumps and power supplies, leak detection, and automated isolation.[15] AAON’s published specifications include RN Series rooftop units from 6 to 140 tons and air-handling units with listed capacities ranging from 400 to 75,500 CFM, depending on configuration.[18][19]

Related offerings include aftermarket parts sold through retail parts stores and online, as well as controls software. Prism 2 supports controller monitoring, setpoints, configuration, scheduling, trend logs, and alarms; AAON also describes controls integration with BACnet-capable systems.[13] In the first half of 2026, reported segment sales were $506.2 million for AAON Oklahoma (about 45.0% of total sales), $264.3 million for AAON Coil Products (23.5%), and $353.4 million for BASX (31.4%). By brand, AAON products represented about 49.0% of first-half sales and BASX products about 51.0%; the company does not provide revenue shares for individual equipment types.[23][24] [12]

Geographic presence

AAON’s U.S. operating footprint includes Tulsa, Oklahoma, where it has manufacturing, office, research and development, customer-center, retail, and distribution operations; Memphis, Tennessee, and Longview, Texas, which have manufacturing operations; a controls facility in Parkville, Missouri; and plant or warehousing operations in Redmond, Sisters, and Bend, Oregon. Its principal executive office is in Tulsa.[25]

AAON sells products in all 50 U.S. states and certain Canadian provinces, primarily through independent manufacturers’ representatives. Its sales are primarily domestic: foreign sales were approximately $38.1 million, or 2.6% of net sales, in 2025, compared with $30.1 million (2.5%) in 2024 and $39.9 million (3.4%) in 2023.[30] [25]

Business segments

AAON reports three operating segments, differentiated by their products, manufacturing processes, and end markets. AAON Oklahoma focuses on configurable HVAC systems, controls solutions, and aftermarket parts; AAON Coil Products manufactures semi-custom and custom HVAC systems and heating and cooling coils, including products supplied to the other segments; and BASX focuses on high-performance cooling for hyperscale data centers, cleanroom ventilation, and customized air-handling and modular solutions.[3]

For FY2025, AAON Oklahoma generated approximately 55.6% of consolidated net sales, AAON Coil Products 22.6%, and BASX 21.9%.[8] In the six months ended June 30, 2026, the respective shares were approximately 45.0%, 23.5%, and 31.4%; these are year-to-date figures, not full-year results.[23]

The company also discloses revenue by brand and discusses products and applications across segments; those are separate breakdowns, not additional reportable segments.[33][34] [3]

Company history

AAON, Inc. was incorporated in Nevada in 1987 and began operating in 1988, founded by Norm Asbjornson.[35] In 1989, the company moved production to a renovated Tulsa facility and introduced rooftop units; it went public in 1990.[38]

AAON expanded into coil products in the early 1990s, establishing operations in Longview, Texas.[37] In 2018, it acquired substantially all of the assets of WattMaster Controls, extending its controls business.[39] In 2021, AAON acquired BASX, adding products serving data-center cooling, cleanroom, and air-handling markets.[40][41]

Founder Norm Asbjornson stepped down as CEO in 2020, with Gary Fields succeeding him; Matt Tobolski became CEO in May 2025.[42] AAON announced plans for a new Memphis facility in 2024 to expand production capacity, and the facility was commissioned in 2025.[43][44] [35]
