      "text": "Texas Pacific Land Corporation traces its origins to the Texas & Pacific Railway, chartered in 1871. By 1881, the railway had built 972 miles of track and become entitled to approximately 3.5 million acres of Texas land. After the railway’s bankruptcy, the land was placed in a trust for its bondholders in 1888. The discovery of oil in the Permian Basin in 1920 gave the trust’s land and mineral interests a new source of value.
