## Company history

Tele2 traces its roots to Jan Stenbeck’s challenge to Sweden’s telecommunications monopoly in the 1980s. Stenbeck founded Tele2 in 1993, when it launched fixed-line telephone services in Sweden; the company was listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange in 1996.
