## Company history

Skanska traces its origins to 1887, when Skanska Cementgjuteriet was formed in Malmö in southern Sweden by Rudolf Fredrik Berg. In 1897, it secured its first contract outside Sweden, supplying hollow concrete blocks for telephone cables in the UK, an early milestone in its international expansion. In 1965, AB Skanska Cementgjuteriet was registered on the Stockholm Stock Exchange A list, and in 1971 the company entered the U.S. market.
