## Company history

RS Group began in 1937 as Radiospares, founded by J. H. Waring and P. M. Sebestyen to supply spare parts to radio repair shops. It expanded into electronic components in 1954, became a publicly listed company as Electrocomponents plc in 1967, and adopted the RS Components name in 1971. [18](https://www.rsgroup.com/about-us/our-history/)

A major step in its international expansion came in 1999 with the acquisition of North American distributor Allied Electronics. Later acquisitions broadened the company’s services and reach: IESA added outsourced maintenance, repair and operations services in 2018, while the 2021 acquisition of Synovos expanded procurement and inventory-management capabilities. In 2022, Electrocomponents plc changed its corporate name to RS Group plc. It subsequently expanded through acquisitions including Risoul in Mexico and Distrelec in Europe in 2023, and Trident Australia in 2024; in 2026 it acquired UK and Ireland automation-and-control specialist BPX. Simon Pryce became chief executive in April 2023.
