## Company history

Naturgy traces its origins to 1843, when Sociedad Catalana para el Alumbrado por Gas began supplying gas lighting in Barcelona. In 1965, Gas Natural, S.A. was established to import natural gas from North Africa, alongside development of Barcelona’s regasification plant and Spain’s first LNG tanker. In 1991, Catalana de Gas absorbed Gas Madrid and adopted the Gas Natural name; the group began expanding internationally in 1992, including into Argentina. A major milestone followed in 2008, when Gas Natural merged with Unión Fenosa and Unión Fenosa Generación. The company entered Chile in 2014 through the takeover of Compañía General de Electricidad.
