## Company history

Louisiana-Pacific Corporation was incorporated in 1972 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Georgia-Pacific and became an independent company when it was spun off in January 1973. In 1979, it opened North America’s first oriented strand board (OSB) mill, helping establish OSB as an alternative to plywood. The company expanded its branded building-products portfolio with the launch of LP SmartSide Trim & Siding in 1997 and radiant-barrier sheathing in 1998; in 1999, it acquired ABT Building Products. [29](https://assets.lpcorp.com/pdfs/lp-sustainability-report.pdf)[30](https://lpcorp.com/about-lp/media-resources/news-releases/lp-building-solutions-celebrates-50-years-of-innovation)[31](https://investor.lpcorp.com/node/13076/html)

LP continued to consolidate and reshape its manufacturing portfolio: in 2013, it acquired Canfor’s interest in the Peace Valley OSB joint venture, becoming sole owner of the mill. In 2020, it agreed to sell its East River facility and CanExel brand rights to Maibec, and in 2023 it acquired Forex’s Wawa OSB facility while shifting some production capacity toward SmartSide. Brad Southern became CEO in 2017; Jason Ringblom succeeded him in February 2026.
