## Company history

Land Securities was established by Harold Samuel in 1944. Its early history included a 1952 partnership to regenerate Hull city centre and expansion into London offices, including redevelopment on Victoria Street beginning in 1962. The company was admitted to the London Stock Exchange in 1955. [4](https://www.landsec.com/en/about/about-landsec/80) [19](https://www.londonstockexchange.com/stock/LAND/land-securities-group-plc/our-story)

Landsec continued to expand its property portfolio over subsequent decades. The Queen opened its Broadway Centre in Ealing in 1985, and Bluewater shopping centre opened in 1999. In 2002, Land Securities Group PLC acquired all of Land Securities PLC, a corporate restructuring later reflected in the group’s accounts. In more recent portfolio changes, Mark Allan became chief executive in April 2020. In 2024, Landsec sold its hotel portfolio and acquired an additional 17.5% stake in Bluewater.
