## Business segments

Kulicke & Soffa reports four product- and service-based segments, rather than geographic segments. In fiscal 2025, Ball Bonding Equipment generated 44.8% of revenue and covers ball-bonding and wafer-level bonding equipment; Wedge Bonding Equipment generated 16.9% and covers wedge and wedge-related bonding equipment; Advanced Solutions generated 11.1% and includes certain advanced-display, die-attach and thermocompression systems and solutions; and Aftermarket Products and Services (APS) generated 23.9% from tools, spares and services for K&S equipment. ## Company history

Kulicke & Soffa began in 1951, when Frederick W. Kulicke Jr. and Albert Soffa formed the partnership that became the company [5](https://www.kns.com/Company)[38](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P36102251). It introduced its first wire bonder in 1956, the year it was incorporated, and developed a digitally controlled, fully automatic wire bonder in 1976 [5](https://www.kns.com/Company). The company held an OTC IPO in 1961 and became one of the first companies listed on Nasdaq in 1971 [39](https://investor.kns.com/FAQs).

From the 1990s onward, K&S broadened its technologies and geographic reach, including progress toward flip-chip technology in 1996 and expansion into China in 2003 [5](https://www.kns.com/Company). It expanded through the acquisitions of Alphasem in 2006 and Orthodyne in 2008 [40](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/56978/000119312506228362/d8k.htm)[41](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/56978/000119312508207878/d8k.htm). In 2021, it acquired Uniqarta and its intellectual property, and in 2023 it completed the acquisition of AJA, adding high-precision micro-dispensing capabilities [42](https://investor.kns.com/2021-02-03-Kulicke-Soffa-Further-Extends-Mini-and-Micro-LED-Technology-Through-Strategic-Acquisition-of-Uniqarta)[43](https://investor.kns.com/2023-02-23-Kulicke-Soffa-Expanding-Competencies-and-Market-Presence).
