## Company history

Entergy traces its roots to Arkansas Power & Light, founded by Harvey Couch in 1913. Its holding-company predecessor, Middle South Utilities, was incorporated in 1949 and adopted the Entergy Corporation name in 1989. Entergy expanded its utility system through a merger with Gulf States Utilities, completed on December 31, 1993.
