## Company history

Carlisle’s roots date to 1917, when Carlisle Tire and Rubber Company began making bicycle inner tubes in Pennsylvania. Pharis Tire and Rubber acquired the company in 1943, and after its shares were distributed to Pharis shareholders in 1949, the business became Carlisle Corporation.
