## Business segments

Bilfinger’s latest regional reporting structure comprises **Central Europe**, **Western Europe** and **International**. The regions deliver engineering, maintenance, expansion and operations services, with the focus differentiated primarily by geography: Central Europe covers Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Poland and the Nordic countries; Western Europe covers the UK, France, Belgium and the Netherlands; and International covers North America, the Middle East and certain Eastern European and Central Asian locations. Based on FY2025 revenue reported under this structure, the approximate shares of Group revenue were Central Europe **46%** (€2,497m), Western Europe **34%** (€1,825m) and International **20%** (€1,062m). [2](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P47334968)[20](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P1397404)

Bilfinger’s FY2025 annual-report segment presentation used a different structure: **Engineering & Maintenance Europe** (€3,629.2m; approximately **66.9%** of Group revenue), **Engineering & Maintenance International** (€741.5m; **13.7%**) and **Technologies** (€850.8m; **15.7%**). Technologies has a distinct project and product focus in energy transition, life science and nuclear, including biopharma plant components and services for the nuclear industry. Percentages use FY2025 external revenue of €5,427.0m; the annual-report table also included a reconciliation-group balance, so the segment shares do not sum to 100%. ## Company history

Bilfinger traces its origins to August Bernatz’s construction business, established in 1880. Its later lineage also included companies founded in 1890, including Julius Berger Tiefbau and Berlinische Boden-Gesellschaft. In 1975, the merger of Grün & Bilfinger and Julius Berger + Bauboag formed Bilfinger + Berger Bauaktiengesellschaft. [22](https://www.bilfinger.com/en/about-us/bilfinger-at-a-glance/history/)

Beginning in 2001, the company shifted from construction toward industrial, power-plant and real-estate services, and adopted the name Bilfinger Berger AG. It became a European company in 2010 and Bilfinger SE in 2012. Between 2014 and 2016 it sold its civil engineering, building construction and real-estate services activities; by 2017 it was focused exclusively on industrial services. [22](https://www.bilfinger.com/en/about-us/bilfinger-at-a-glance/history/)

In 2024 Bilfinger expanded its industrial-services operations through the acquisition of Stork units in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
