## Products & services

BBVA offers personal-banking products including current and savings accounts, debit, credit and prepaid cards, fixed- and variable-rate mortgages, insurance, and savings and investment products such as funds, deposits, securities and pension plans. These examples are from BBVA Spain’s catalogue and should not be read as a complete catalogue for every market. For businesses and corporate clients, offerings include lending and cards, global transaction banking, working-capital management, inventory financing, trade finance and capital-markets financing. BBVA’s Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) provides specialized services to large corporations; it reported €4.251 billion in revenue for the first half of 2026. [11](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P144474202)[12](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=P144474217)[13](https://www.bbva.com/en/enterprises/international-expansion/feed/)[14](https://www.bbva.com/en/enterprises/financing-for-companies/capital-markets-financing/feed/)[15](https://shareholdersandinvestors.bbva.com/news/bbva-cib-cierra-primer-semestre-2026-unos-ingresos-record-4-251-millones-euros/)

For the six months ended June 30, 2026, BBVA reported €15.164 billion in net interest income and €4.572 billion in net fees and commissions, approximately 71.7% and 21.6% of gross income, respectively. These are broad revenue categories, not product-specific performance shares; fee growth was attributed mainly to payment methods, asset management and CIB. ## Business segments

BBVA reports five business areas: Spain, Mexico, Turkey, South America and Rest of Business. These are primarily regional banking franchises; Spain’s reported activities include mortgages, consumer and card lending, small and mid-sized businesses, Corporate & CIB, and the public sector. South America includes Colombia, Peru, Argentina and other markets such as Chile, Venezuela and Uruguay. Rest of Business is mainly CIB in the U.S., Europe and Asia, together with digital banks in Italy and Germany. Corporate Center and adjustments are reported separately in the financial reconciliation, rather than as one of the five business areas. For FY2025, approximate contributions by reported gross income were Mexico 41.2%, Spain 27.2%, South America 14.5%, Turkey 14.1% and Rest of Business 4.9%. By attributable profit, the respective shares were Mexico 50.1%, Spain 39.7%, Turkey 7.7%, South America 6.9% and Rest of Business 6.0%. Corporate Center and adjustments contributed negative 1.8% of gross income and negative 10.3% of attributable profit; these shares use BBVA Group totals as denominators and may not sum to exactly 100% because of rounding. Amounts are reported-euro figures, so exchange-rate translation and inflation effects can affect comparisons across areas. [24](https://app.finbar.com/go?id=T17499825)

## Company history

Banco de Bilbao, BBVA’s earliest institutional predecessor, was founded in 1857. In 1988, Banco de Bilbao merged with Banco de Vizcaya to form Banco Bilbao Vizcaya (BBV); in 1999, BBV merged with Argentaria, creating Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA). [25](https://shareholdersandinvestors.bbva.com/bbva-group/bbva-in-brief/history-of-bbva/)

From the mid-1990s, BBV expanded across Latin America through acquisitions in Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and Chile. BBVA’s combination with Bancomer in 2000 established a major presence in Mexico. In 2007, BBVA agreed to acquire U.S. bank Compass Bancshares, and in 2011 it completed the acquisition of a 24.89% stake in Turkey’s Garanti Bank. [25](https://shareholdersandinvestors.bbva.com/bbva-group/bbva-in-brief/history-of-bbva/)[26](https://shareholdersandinvestors.bbva.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/ANUNCIO_JGE_2007_Eng_tcm927-346246.pdf)[27](https://shareholdersandinvestors.bbva.com/microsites/informes2011/en/Consolidatedfinancialstatements/3.html)

In 2014, Spain’s bank-resolution fund accepted BBVA’s bid for Catalunya Banc. In November 2020, BBVA agreed to sell its U.S. subsidiary, BBVA USA, to PNC, marking a major change in its U.S. operations.
