Japan encompasses alcoholic beverages, non-alcoholic beverages and food; Europe is principally a beer business; and Oceania includes both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Southeast Asia was the smallest of the four regional businesses. These are geographic segments, rather than separate group-wide segments for beer, soft drinks and food. These percentages describe the FY2024 reporting structure: Asahi subsequently combined Oceania and Southeast Asia within an Asia Pacific regional structure and adopted a Japan & East Asia grouping. ## Company history

Asahi Group Holdings traces its origins to Osaka Brewery, founded in 1889. The company launched Asahi Beer in 1892 and joined two other brewers in 1906 to form Dai-Nippon Beer. When Dai-Nippon was split up in 1949, Asahi Breweries was established. Asahi launched Asahi Super Dry in 1987, a milestone in its beer business. It expanded internationally through its 2009 acquisition of Schweppes Australia, then adopted a holding-company structure in 2011 under the name Asahi Group Holdings. Later major acquisitions included European beer businesses and brands formerly owned by SABMiller in 2016–17 and Carlton & United Breweries in Australia in 2020.
